Overview

The University of Lausanne (UNIL), founded in 1537, is one of Switzerland's oldest universities and one of the most beautifully situated in the world — on the slopes above Lake Geneva, with spectacular views of the Alps and the French shore. Ranked #238 in QS 2025, UNIL is particularly renowned for its Faculty of Business and Economics (HEC Lausanne, which is the #1 French-speaking business school in Switzerland by many measures), life sciences (Faculty of Biology and Medicine), and social sciences. UNIL co-operates closely with EPFL (ranked QS #17), which is co-located on the same Dorigny campus, creating a concentration of academic talent comparable to the Oxbridge colleges.

Admission Process

Swiss/EU: maturité or equivalent. International: direct application through UNIL admissions, recognized qualification required. French proficiency required for most programs; English master's programs available. DELF B2/DALF C1 for French programs. Deadline: April for September intake.
