Overview

Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), founded in 1931 (as the School of Agriculture Malaya), is Malaysia's leading agricultural and life sciences university and ranked #270 in QS 2025. UPM's origins as an agricultural college evolved into a comprehensive research university where agriculture and related sciences (food science, environmental science, forestry, veterinary medicine) remain the strongest programs globally. UPM is one of only five Malaysian universities with the prestigious 'Research University' (RU) status from the Malaysian government. Its 1,200-hectare campus in Serdang — about 25 km south of Kuala Lumpur — is one of the most beautiful in Southeast Asia, with tropical gardens, experimental farms, a natural forest reserve, and the Taman Pertanian Malaysia (Malaysian Agricultural Park) on campus.
