Overview

National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU), formed in February 2021 through the merger of National Yang-Ming University (Taiwan's premier medical/life sciences university, founded 1975) and National Chiao Tung University (Taiwan's premier engineering and computer science university, founded 1896 in Shanghai, re-established 1958 in Hsinchu), is one of Asia's most powerful academic mergers. Ranked #302 in QS 2025, NYCU combines cutting-edge engineering and computer science (legacy NCTU strength — alma mater of leading semiconductor engineers and TSMC's founders' generation) with world-class medicine and life sciences (legacy NYMU strength — Taiwan's only university focused exclusively on medicine, dentistry, public health, and nursing before the merger). This unique combination creates Taiwan's most comprehensive technical and biomedical university.
