Overview

Koç University, founded in 1993 by the Vehbi Koç Foundation (the philanthropic arm of the Koç Group — Turkey's largest industrial conglomerate, owning Ford Otosan, Arçelik, Migros, and dozens of major companies), is Turkey's most internationally connected private research university and ranked #401 in QS 2025. Koç's 500-hectare Rumelifeneri campus is located on the cliff tops above the Black Sea coast at the northern extreme of Istanbul — where the Bosphorus exits into the Black Sea. The campus views of the Black Sea, the Bosphorus mouth, and the Anadolu Feneri lighthouse are among the most spectacular of any university in the world. Like Bilkent and Boğaziçi, Koç conducts all instruction fully in English. Koç is Turkey's most selective private university for international students, and its research output and faculty quality (with extensive US PhD-holding faculty) is comparable to selective American liberal arts universities. The Koç Group's financial backing means the university is well-resourced, and scholarships are generous.
