Overview

Hanyang University, founded in 1939 by Kim Yeon-jun with a dedication to engineering and the practical arts ('Hanyang' means 'City of Seoul' in classical Korean), is one of South Korea's leading research universities — ranked #354 in QS 2025 and consistently placed among Korea's top 5 universities globally. Hanyang is particularly celebrated for its engineering programs (mechanical, electrical, chemical, and materials engineering are all nationally top-ranked), its business school (the Hanyang Business School is AACSB-accredited), and its architecture (the Department of Architecture is one of Korea's leading). Hanyang's culture of 'Sarang in Silcheon' (Love in Practice — the motto reflects the founder's belief that education must serve society practically) creates a notably industry-engaged culture: Hanyang alumni run many of Korea's largest engineering and construction companies. The Seoul campus in Wangsimni, on the banks of the Han River (a stone's throw from one of Seoul's most dynamic neighbourhoods, Seongsu — 'Seoul's Brooklyn'), provides excellent access to Korea's capital.

Admission Process

CSAT (College Scholastic Ability Test) for Korean students + Hanyang's own academic records evaluation. International students: TOEFL 80+/IELTS 6.0+ + GPA + interview. Graduate: GRE optional + research proposal for PhD. Apply via Hanyang's international portal (oia.hanyang.ac.kr).
